He was born on 9 October 1892 and educated at Winchester and New College, Oxford.〔“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 After World War I service with the Middlesex Regiment he was Assistant Principal at the Board of Education then an Assistant Master at his old school. He was appointed Headmaster of Merchant Taylors’〔(School notes )〕 in 1927 then Winchester〔(Time Magazine )〕 eight years later. Ordained Deacon in 1939 〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 and Priest in 1940 he was Rector of St. Mary's Church, Southampton〔The Times, Monday, Jan 21, 1946; pg. 4; Issue 50355; col F ''Canon Leeson's New Appointment''〕 and then Wiccamical Prebendary at Chichester Cathedral.
